Noodling

Well, I will admit that I am burro/donkey/mule challenged. This I am assuming is a momma and her baby but I don't know of which species they come from.











Anyway, they were picture worthy so here they are.














The florist was on one of the back roads that ran parallel to #78.
















The yard art was down the street from the florist and got our votes for patriotism.
















Not sure what type of tree this is but the pinecones are rather cool....I will have to ask my brother if he can tell me.

Lexington, Georgia

The trip home was spent noodling off the main road and checking out some of the houses on the side roads. This church took me several shots as the truck was cold and it was steamy hot outside and starting to rain...the lens on the camera kept fogging up.
















As we left the parking lot we turned down another side street and came across this building that looked as if the plants were growing in it...it is really cool looking and we were wondering why we hadn't noticed it on the way to Athens; it was because the building has no front or other side to it!! We would have completely missed this if we hadn't driven by in this precise direction!!
















The Lexington Antique Mall is directly across the street and we were all tickled at their front door mascot.

As a nature/animal lover I had to stop and get a picture of the ibis' in the water.

























BettyAnn was the one who noticed the baby Canadian geese. For those who say that people don't care about others anymore, you are completely wrong. We were pulled off to the side of the road to take the pics of the birds when a car with 2 women in it asked us if we needed help? See caring people still exist out there!! Special blessings for those 2 ladies and their families!!

Thursday Bee

Thursday was our Pieceful Hearts Quilt Guild's day group Bee. The N.Augusta, SC quilt is finally finished. It is a pictorial quilt featuring pictures of families, buildings, etc. over the last century.

Pat was teaching a group how to make the fabric thread catchers for their sewing machines. I bought one she had made at our last quilt show.
















Carolyn, Rachael, BettyAnn & I headed to Augusta, GA for lunch after bee. On our way there, we passed a lovely home with the coolest yard art out front and we stopped to get a picture. I just love the horse and rider (and whatever it is that he has slung over the back).















We ate at the Blue Sky Kitchen on Broad Street in Augusta, GA. The food was good but it was warm even in the restaurant.

Day in Atlanta

After our class we headed next door to the Little European Bakery. We had been told they served sandwiches (in addition to the luscious baked creations they make). Unfortunately there isn't seating there and it was 100 degrees outside. We ate at Jason's and had healthy sandwiches instead. So we headed on into town. Now we have never gone into town before but we wanted to be adventurous for a change!

We headed to Binders Art Supply which was easy to find had we stayed on the right road.












We then headed to Utrecht Art Supply which was considerably more difficult to find. BettyAnn finally called the store to get directions (mapquest is usually pretty good but was not user friendly on this one). After going further in town we finally found it. The roads are considerably narrower in town which makes driving the Durango a bit tedious at times. The crowning insult was in finding out they do not have 'public bathrooms' in the store. Needless to say, we WON'T be going back. Instead we went to Starbuck's across the street and got a Frappucino while we were there. We did head out of town about an hour or so earlier than normal and were able to get on I-20 much earlier than usual.












However while we were on I-85 I saw the Olympic Flame which I would have had a picture of had I removed the lens off the camera. I did manage to get a pic of some of the building scape instead, much to the horror of Rachael (who was in the front seat) and BettyAnn. They later said they would have taken the wheel so I could take the picture but I didn't ask them too....heck, I say they never offered. I am quite used to doing several things while driving so this didn't seem too difficult...it wasn't like I had the camera up to my face or anything...geez....

We got to our stop in Conyers, first to Hobby Lobby (which we did NOT close for a change) and then onto Baan Thai for supper. BettyAnn and Rachael at the Baan Thai...it would have been clearer if BA hadn't been messing around.

Tuesday at FOAW

Tuesday was our monthly trip to Atlanta and Fiber on a Whim. This months project is needlelace and embroidery. Jan has a detailed drawing on her fabric to embroider.




























Kristen did a lot of the loose stitches (which look like crochet to me) and topped it off with the coolest butterfly.







































Jan demonstrates the needlelace on wash-a-way stabilizer. She also showed us how to add wire and sew over it (without breaking a needle). Her leaf page is gorgeous!!










































































The happiness page is one that one of the girls has done and I didn't have a picture of. It uses foil, angelina fiber and charms.

Transfer Playday

Wednesday we went to Rachael's to have a transfer playday.

I was wanting to do a special photo transfer card for my sister, Misty's birthday.


Rachael & BettyAnn hadn't done the transfers before and the only ones I had done were the ones for Donna's photo album and were all done on fabric so this would be new for me too. Both girls caught on quickly and were getting their transfers done in no time. BettyAnn & Rachael burnishing their transfer pictures.














Rachael transferred her pictures onto scrapbook fabric paper.











BA & I both did ours on watercolor paper. I must admit that the transfers on the fabric paper came out much clearer than the ones on the watercolor paper did. Although BA's came out much better than the transfers I did.

I really wanted to do something for Misty's birthday that would incorporate the pictures I had taken of Kylie back in May when I was visiting.



I used the Twinkling H2O's (shimmery watercolors) to paint the watercolor paper. I had chosen a book style out of one of BettyAnn or Rachael's bookmaking books, whose style I was really fond of to start with. The paper book came out just fine and I was really pleased. I was really pleased when I layed the individual transfers on the paper to see how they would look layed out. The transfers themselves printed out just fine but in the process of transferring them onto the watercolor paper, a less than desirable outcome happened. I was not very pleased with the way the photos transferred onto the watercolor paper (with the exception of just a couple).
This was one of the test transfers which came out real well.
