Birthday Surprise from the Wonderful Women Who Quilt

My birthday was on a Monday night this year so I celebrated it with the Wonderful Women Who Quilt the night division of Pieceful Hearts Quilter in North Augusta, SC. We meet at St. Bart's Episcopal Church on Martintowne Road the first Monday of the month for meetings and every Monday following for quilting bees. They are a great group of ladies and we have lots of fun helping each other and spurring each other on in our projects. Usually only a handful come to the bees but the meetings are rather large.

The WWWQ gave me flip flops for my birthday!! They said since it wasn't a finished quilt they were going to give it to me as a quilt kit...thankfully they were kidding :)

They wouldn't tell me what was going in the middle so I suppose I will have to wait to see what it is

Sooooo.... I was invited to the quilt workday the following week after Margaret was finished working and this is what they had done before I got there

adding some flip flops

Laying it out what does it need????

Hoochy Mama Quilts & other projects

Joyce had her projects to work on, finishing baby blankets for a nephew and quilting a wholecloth quilt for her daughter's upcoming wedding in August.

Ille works on her Lollipop appliqué quilt that she and Judy started at Hickory Knob.

While we were at the mountain house, Ille, Judy, Margaret and I started on Mary Lou Weidman's Hoochy Mama quilt. I'm always talking about hoochy mama's and Ille gave me Mary Lou's book for my birthday. It seemed like a fun project for our mountain vacation.

Ille's hoochy mama's, I just love her sherberty colors:

Some of Margaret's hoochy mama blocks, the black really makes the colors pop:

These are the blocks I worked on. I've decided to take the large log cabin and make it the center of my quilt. The smaller blocks will go around it. I'm going to combine the hoochy mama and Diane Hires playtime techniques in my quilt. It will probably wind up downstairs in the sitting room/guest room since the colors match so well. This hopefully will help use up some of my stash with little buying on my part. I'm trying to use black since it seems so effective in quilts I've seen. It's a real stretch for me though so we will see how it turns out. :)

Scrapbooking for Tory Ruth

Misty's friends had a baby shower for her last month and I wasn't able to attend (actually I wasn't invited...sniff sniff...but we will not go there)....

sooooo since they were doing scrapbook pages for Tory Ruth (the expected little one) and I wasn't there and Brandy didn't know the pages were for Misty's baby book and didn't fight the throngs of females cutting, pasting and creating....

we had our own scrapbook page making day and here are our results....

Kylie is going to be quite the little artist I'm sure...between her mommy's talents and her Auntie Kim's she's got it in the bag...also my Mom sewed as well as my grandmother and great-grandmother who also quilted...Kylie and I both like glitter and lots of it....

Connie, Margaret, Ille, Sue & i (even though my contribution was only putting food out on the counter at lunchtime & photography of the event) got together to put Jeff's giclee prints into wall quilts.

Jeff needed to get 2 of his pictures 'framed' with fabric before an art show later that evening.

Lura Swartz Smith came to our guild to teach her Faces in Painting class.

Lura Swartz Smith was so positive in her critiquing of everyones works. She is also energetic and very talented and we really enjoyed her.
